Thakkar Community

Our surname is fairly common in Gujarat and is one of the many surnames used by the Lohanas. It is believed that our origins are in Iran and Afghanistan and that we migrated to Sindh and present day Gujarat in India around 800 years ago. We were administrators and rulers in the past. Lohanas who converted to Sunni Islam are called Memons.
